Oak Bay half marathon sees record participation

Approximately 200 volunteers made the event possible

It was a fun morning in the sun during the 17th annual Oak Bay Half Marathon, Relay, 10 km and Dairyland Kids Run.

More than 1,800 people were registered for the Sunday (May 28) event, which was a new record.

“It was amazing,” event manager Louise Hodgson-Jones said. “We couldn’t have hoped for better weather. It was a really superb day.”

Around 200 volunteers also made the event possible.

“It really helped,” Hodgson-Jones said. “We wouldn’t be able to put this on without people like that.”

Routes began and wrapped up at Windsor Park and took participants through the village, various neighbourhoods and along Beach Drive.

“This highlights Oak Bay really well,” Hodgson-Jones said. “It’s a beautiful setting. People are blown away by the views and blown away by the hospitality of the community.”
