When the weather heats up, families will be able to keep cool now that Nanaimo’s water parks are open for the summer season.

The city’s water parks, located in Harewood Centennial Park, Deverill Square Park, Departure Bay Kiwanis Park and Mansfield Park, turned on the faucets this morning, June 18, and will be open daily 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

People using the parks are asked to help stop the spread of COVID-19 by following guidelines that are posted at each park.

Park users are asked to maintain physical distancing of two metres from anyone outside their household, to wash their hands properly before coming to the park and after leaving, bring their own hand sanitizer or antiseptic wipes, avoid the area if they are sick, if they’ve been exposed to someone who is sick or if they are immunocompromised, to not share their equipment, toys, food, water bottles or other personal items and to not congregate in groups larger than 50.

Water used at water parks is fresh and is not recycled, but the city said it is important to note that while the parks are cleaned and maintained on a regular schedule, the spray park equipment is not being cleaned or disinfected on a daily basis.
