The public information session regarding work on the Highway 14 and Idlemore Road intersection has now been postponed. A new date for the event will be announced as soon as it is available.

The Ministry of Transportation and Transit is consulting with Saseenos Elementary school and stakeholders to ensure the design supports the need of community.

The session was originally scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 29.

Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure staff were to attend to present a design overview and other project details. The project aims to improve safety and ease traffic flow for drivers, pedestrians, cyclists, and other road users. Ministry staff will also be available to answer questions.

“The project will also provide better access to Saseenos Elementary School and support economic development opportunities for T’Sou-ke First Nation,” the ministry said in a press release.

The initiative is one of several current and upcoming projects in the District of Sooke. Another project, the Little River Crossing and multi-use trail, has just broken ground and is expected to be completed this fall.

To help reduce congestion, the district is also looking to improve transit options, said Christina Moog, the district’s manager of communications and community relations.

“Better transit options are key to reducing congestion, and we’re advocating for more frequent and reliable routes to help make public transit a more practical choice for residents,” Moog said.

More information on transportation and traffic projects in Sooke is available on the district’s Transportation Master Planning Projects page.

The Idlemore Improvement Project information session will now be held at a later and unconfirmed date.
