As is tradition in Ladysmith, the Christmas lights all got switched on at once.

The Ladysmith Festival of Lights began with Light Up night on Thursday, Nov. 24. Music and activities started in the late afternoon leading up to Santa Claus hitting the switch to light up the town.

After that, the Light Up parade made its way through town, followed by a fireworks display.

Mayor Aaron Stone thanked everyone who attended the celebrations and wished them Merry Christmas and happy holidays.

“This is the kind of thing that is the cure for what ails. Getting together as a community, coming out to celebrate, getting in the holiday spirit,” he said.

Stz’uminus Chief Roxanne Harris said it was a very special night and thanked everyone for coming out.

“It’s really great to see everyone here – I’m just so happy to see the celebration,” she said.
