Camosun College student Evan Fraser from Victoria took home a gold medal after beating out his competitors at the Skills Canada National Competition in Winnipeg.
The plumbing and pipe trades student won first in the sprinkler fitting competition.
Skills Canada National Competition is a national event that takes the best students and apprentices in their respective programs from across the country and pins them head-to-head in competitions that showcase their skills. The competition focuses on students who specialize in multi-trade and technology fields.
“Getting the chance to showcase everything I have learned on the job and in the classroom at a national competition was an incredible opportunity,” says Fraser.
At the provincial skills competition held in Abbotsford in April, Fraser shared the first place stage with Krista Buzzeo, who competed in the refrigeration and air conditioning competition.
“We’re incredibly proud of both students who made it to nationals and had the opportunity to represent Camosun and their home province,” said Darren Vaux, chair of the Pipe Trades Department at Camosun College. “The competition was tough as it is every year and it felt great to be able to bring home a gold medal.”
