As of Thursday morning, air quality on Vancouver Island has improved slightly, with Nanaimo and Greater Victoria in the “high” risk range and the Comox Valley and Duncan listed as “moderate” risk as of 10 a.m. on B.C.’s Air Quality Health Index.

The readings have frequently been in the ‘very high’ health risk during the past several days, including some of the worst air quality rankings in the world.

Smoke is expected to last in the region until at least Friday. The B.C. government recommends avoiding strenuous outdoor activities and physical exertion, particularly for children and the elderly.

An Environment Canada notice Thursday afternoon says air quality is expected to begin to improve over the weekend.
