The Comox Valley Community Health Network (CVCHN) has been hosting a series of online conversations, guided by experienced facilitators, to learn from people’s experiences of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Participants’ feedback in past conversations is that the discussions have been welcoming, enjoyable, and cathartic.

“Based on what we hear, we will be making recommendations to organizations that have a role in pandemic response and recovery about how to support physical and mental health during future pandemic phases,” said CVCHN facilitator, Lindsay McGinn, in a press release. “COVID has added an additional level of social isolation to our lives; this conversation is an opportunity to talk with others in similar situations to share and connect with each other.”

There are four conversations coming up in the next few months:

Community Conversation for Caregivers of Children and Adults with Disabilities and Seniors: Despite the commitment caregivers have, and the love they feel for the people they support, providing care for children, adults with disabilities, seniors, or those in palliative care, can be time-consuming and exhausting. Thursday, Oct. 8, 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Community Conversation for Caregivers of Young Children: Providing care for young children adds a complex and challenging dimension to the COVID crisis. From managing care/work schedules, to ensuring your child is safe, making difficult decisions about going back to school and knowing how much to talk to kids has been an ongoing challenge for months. This conversation is an opportunity for caregivers of young children to talk and share stories and experiences about the ups and downs of parenting during COVID. Thursday, Oct. 15, 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Community Conversation for Professional Caregiver in Home Support, Long-Term and Palliative Care: Professional caregivers display an extraordinary level of commitment to those in palliative or hospice care. In typical times, the work of caregiving can be exceptional. Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2-4 p.m.

Community Conversation for Youth (ages 12 to 29): The COVID pandemic has presented unique challenges and opportunities for young people in the Comox Valley. This session is being co-designed and co-facilitated with youth from our community as part of their school experience. This session is for youth between the ages of 12 and 29 who are interested in talking to other youth about their experience. Wednesday, Nov. 4, from 9:15-11:15 a.m.
