Two Greater Victoria non-profit programs have received provincial funding for things like playground and public safety improvements.
The Community Grants Program uses revenues from commercial gaming to fund projects across B.C. that help upgrade facilities and community infrastructure and secure equipment for programs.
Campus View Elementary School’s parent advisory council received almost $80,000 to build a new playground. The advisory council has been planning to replace the current 30-year-old playground for years, according to a provincial news release.
The new playground will include a new structure, natural elements like tree stumps and boulders and Indigenous artwork on a large storage container that’s serving as the school’s emergency kiosk.
Another recipient is the Saanich Inlet Lifeboat Society. It’s been given almost $42,000 for a midlife refit of its RCMSAR 31 MV Robert Holmes fast response vessel. The funding will go toward replacing the boat’s engine and electrical wiring.
