One of Vancouver Island’s favourite outdoor art shows is back this weekend.
Ladysmith’s main downtown street, First Avenue will be closed for traffic and full of arts with Light Up the Night on Saturday, and Arts on the Avenue on Sunday.
Light Up the Night will display art pieces with a light element in them. The Ladysmith Arts Council has put a call for artists to create “a work of art from recycled or new materials with an electrical element” for $100 or less. Light up the Night events take place 6:30 to 10:30 pm. There will be a night market, beer garden, a paint competition, and fun activities for the whole family.
“We’ve done a huge community canvas that people can come and paint on, and then it’s going to tour the town,” Kathy Holmes, Ladysmith Arts Council president said.
The community canvas will be available at both Light Up the Night and Arts on the Avenue.
Arts on the Avenue is a juried arts show that features artists from all over Vancouver Island. All artists in the show are members of the Ladysmith Waterfront Gallery. Some of them have been in the show for every year of its existence. Arts on the Avenue will run 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. from Warren Street to Buller Local businesses will be hosting sidewalk sales and Arts on the Avenue special deals during the day.
1st Avenue will be closed from noon on Saturday until 7:00 pm on Sunday.
