Macaulay Road and Area Neighbourhood Association (MRANA) held an afternoon celebration on June 11 to recognize the completion of the Macaulay Heights Parking Project.
This community project was made possible by the contribution of the British Columbia Vision Zero in Road Safety Grant of $8,193.22 (funded by the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure through Island Health) to the Comox Valley Regional District Parks to develop safer access into the park and parking for vehicles and horse trailers off the road.
Suzanne Sawyer, chair of the Macaulay Road and Area Neighbourhood Association was delighted with the number of members, friends, and neighbours that came to celebrate this success and thanked the Comox Valley Regional District and volunteers that made this project possible.
“We especially want to thank Andrew Burger, our park technician who managed this project and did a lot of the work himself, always listened, and usually said ‘yes!’ to our requests,” said Sawyer.
Other community donations included Mike Hamilton Logging and the Back Country Horsemen of BC - North Island Chapter whose volunteers funded and installed an equestrian mounting block.
Mark Harrison, parks manager, and Area C Director Edwin Grieve Comox Valley Regional District attended and remarked on the collaboration of volunteers that supported this project.
MRANA thanked the Coastal Community Credit Union for the Community Investment Grant to support the celebration and acknowledged the Citizens on Patrol (COPS) members attending. The Citizens on Patrol Comox Valley have supported a contingent of MRANA members that joined COPS and provided ICBC speed watch signs for use in the area - be safe on the road.
