For those who love camping but struggle with the idea of having to endure those hard moments, three Vancouver Island campgrounds are offering a comfier option.
The operators of the park, RLC Park Services now offers a stationary travel trailer rental — a 2017 28 foot Jay Flight BHS that can easily accommodate six people and provide the comforts of home while enjoying the great outdoors at Gold River, Rathtrevor and Sproat Lake.
“We’ve been trying to find ways to enable as many different people to camp as possible,” said Allison Roberts, of RLC Park Services. “So we’re excited to be offering this.”
RLC Park Services purchased a brand new trailer and to test whether there is a demand for such a service, Roberts said they held a soft launch midway through the summer last year.
“We had some really great response from the people that used it as it was rented out a fair number of nights,” said Roberts. Rathrevor Beach was the most popular for sure.
“We’re hoping to see a lot of success this year because we’ve got a lot of positive responses from people that have rented the trailer.”
There is only going to be one trailer that will be for rent at Rathrevor. It will cost $189 a night and that does not include the camp fees of $35.
The price, Roberts said, maybe a bit hefty but it will help pay for the maintenance of the trailer to keep it nice and clean.
The travel trailer will be fixed at the location that used to be the park host’s site. Roberts said this is the only park that has full hook-up for travel trailer.
“It’s not going to be moved around,” she said. “It will stay there for the whole season.”
The travel trailer rentals provide people who are planning to buy one an opportunity to try it out, said Roberts. As well, it also offers people an alternative, especially those who are not keen on the whole roughing it out experience.
“There are some people who just don’t feel comfortable camping as far as having all the gear, the barbecue, the propane and all that kind of stuff to bring,” said Roberts.
“But they also want to be outdoors. So the goal is to try to get anybody that wants to be outside and to experience that camping experience but to do it a a level that’s comfortable for them.”
