After two decades of providing the Qualicum Beach community with tasty baked goodies, Peter and Helena Schneider are passing the torch to another family.

The Schneiders have worked as bakers for more than 40 years and spent 20 years of that time as the owners of the Qualicum Beach Bakery.

Peter indicated they’re moving on from the bakery business and look forward to embarking on something different.

“I am done,” said Peter. “My body doesn’t want to do it anymore. I am hoping to replace it with something good.”

On their last day as owners of the popular bakery on Aug. 31, the Schneiders treated the community and regular patrons to free bratwurst barbecue.

“If there is anything I am going to miss the most, it’s the people,” said Peter. “They have been good customers. My customers are my extended family.”

The new owners of the business are a family from Alberta. They will take over the operations of the bakery on Sept. 15.

“I am hoping they will continue what we’ve been doing here, if not even better,” said Peter.
