Vancouver Island’s Canadian Premier League club brought a high level of soccer to Nanaimo this past weekend.

Victoria’s Pacific FC played an exhibition game against Vancouver FC on Saturday, March 16, at Q’unq’inuqwstuxw Stadium, winning 2-1.

The Canadian Premier League is Canada’s top men’s professional soccer league.

Pacific FC is coached by Nanaimo’s James Merriman. He told CanPL.ca that last season, when the team had a strong start but then dipped in the second half, Pacific FC allowed themselves to change too much in the face of adversity.

“I think we just got away a little bit, so that was the biggest learning for myself,” he said. “We’re going to play our way and we’re going to stay true to that for as long as the season is, we’re not going to change regardless of how things go. Small tweaks, but never change.”

Pacific FC will start the 2024 season April 13 at Langford’s Starlight Stadium against the Halifax Wanderers. For more information about the club, visit http://pacificfc.canpl.ca.
