West Shore RCMP confirms an individual involved in a crash on the Trans-Canada Highway near Langford earlier this month has died.

Family of the deceased have been notified and police said the name of the individual will not be released. The other driver in the crash is recovering.

Police said the investigation is still ongoing but speed and alcohol are not believed to be a factor at this time.

Cst. Nancy Saggar of West Shore RCMP said investigators are waiting for the traffic reconstructionists who came to the scene to reconstruct the accident.

“But that takes some time to do,” Saggar said.

On Jan. 8 around 12:43 p.m., West Shore RCMP, BC Ambulane and Langford Fire Rescue responded to a two-vehicle, head-on collision.

The collision involved a blue Honda Pilot and silver Honda CRV and occurred on Highway 1, on an undivided curve between Leigh Road and West Shore Parkway.

The drivers of both vehicles were the only occupants and were transported to hospital with serious injuries at the time.

Police at the time said any witnesses were being asked to contact investigators.

Saggar said people driving on the stretch of the highway where the collision occured should be careful and slow down.

“It is a pretty high collision area,” Saggar said. “Depending on the weather that road can be very slick, it’s also quite winding…even going over the shoulder or the centre line a little bit causes the driver in the oncoming lane to fear for their safety.”
